Fasch: Sonata in C major for bassoon and basso continuo
Description
The present edition of Fasch's C major bassoon sonata is closely based on a contemporary copy owned by the Fuerstenberg Herdringen Library in Arnsberg in the Federal Republic of Germany. In compiling the present edition we setout to offer the user as clear and lucid an account as possible of the source material. This was not always a simple undertaking, because the copyist - although he was absolutely scrupulous in making emendations and changes in his manuscript - in some passages gives us absolutely no clue as to possible analogies or discrepancies in the continuo numbering. We have emended obviously erroneous accidentals. All additions and the phrasing which we recommend on the basis of contemporary performance practice are designated by brackets or by dotted printing.
